Studio Samueru was founded by Samuel Wüst in 2026. The name is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the name Samuel (サムエル). During his exchange semester at the Tokyo University of the Arts (Tōkyō Geijutsu Daigaku, or Tōkyō Geidai for short) in 2014, Samuel Wüst gained a motivating insight into the Japanese architecture and art scene, which left a lasting impression. For this reason, the farewell gift from his fellow students — a name stamp (hanko) made of hardwood — is used as the studio’s logo. His decision to devote himself to painting was made after two stays in 2020 and 2023 at Podere Acquarello, a Tuscan olive and wine estate, where he undertook experimental painting under the guidance of Hugo Waschkowski. After a period during which the studio was provided a space by friends at Treuackerstrasse 32 in St. Gallen, Studio Samueru established itself at Burgstrasse 12.
